This two-year project brought together people from the Whitley Estate in Reading twice monthly to get to know each other and socialise through listening to and telling stories. Participants were able to describe and share their own stories through a range of art forms and activities, such as words, songs, dance or drawing. Initiated by a core group of residents gathering in the local community hall, neighbours of all ages and backgrounds, including migrants from other countries as well as older people got together to explore different ways of getting to know each other. The group helped to tackle isolation and mental ill health and build stronger community cohesion between residents.
