The project will contribute to Nature, Conservation and Restoration and Connecting People with Natureproviding one new full-time role and supporting three existing roles.New audiences will be engaged in restoring species rich grassland on Dartmoor and safeguard priority speciesincluding the Marsh Fritillary butterfly by combining - the people skills of the Shallowford Trust with theenvironmental expertise of Butterfly Conservation and Dartmoor Hill Farm Project. Working with harder to reachgroups, local communities and key landowners the partnership will deliver a range of outcomes to improve theresilience and diversity of the areas Rhos pasture systems aiming:To provide education and hands on engagement for harder to reach groups, volunteers and the localcommunity in habitat restoration and enhancementProvide targeted advice and support for landowners managing Rhos pasture systemsDevelop skills and confidence amongst participants to monitor grasslands and the Marsh FritillarybutterflySupport the national monitoring programme of the Marsh Fritillary butterfly across Dartmoor and providedata to the UK Butterfly Monitoring SchemeThe employment of a specialist Conservation Officer to coordinate activity and work with different audiences willenable hands on engagement from seed collection and propagation to habitat restoration coordinated fromShallowford Farm.

This measure is the primary Agri-environment-climate funding for England in delivering the Rural Development programme environmental land management priorities and builds on the agri-environment Countryside Stewardship and Environmental Stewardship schemes offered under the previous RD programme. The measure funds activities intended to deliver environmental land management priorities contributing to Englands Biodiversity 2020 goals and legal obligations under the Habitats, Birds and Water Framework Directives and soil commitments made in the Natural Environment White Paper and increase resilience of wildlife, habitats and ecosystems to climate change. Funding is paid according to the payment rate for each option included in the individual agreement, and the area/length/number of the commitment selected and is based on income foregone and additional costs. Agreements can be 5 year multi annual commitments with the option of annual extensions for a further two years. 10 year commitments or longer will be offered in cases where an exception is clearly justified.
