The objective of the initiative is to increase incomes, stabilize livelihoods & generate employment for the poorest rural & forest-dependent communities in this area. The initiative will promote & professionalize the production, processing, enterprise & market development of non-timber forest products (NTFPs) - gum, resin and incense. Surnarma & SET have significant experience of similar work (community based forest management delivering both conservation & poverty reduction goals) & have been invited to work in Metemma because of their previous success elsewhere.
