We will tackle the root causes of ....more The project will contribute to Kenyas long-term sustainable development by integrating biodiversity, health and population programming, and sharing best practice. We will tackle the root causes of poverty and degradation of biodiversity, addressing SDGs No Poverty, Life on Land, Good Health and Wellbeing and Gender Equality.Addressing the unmet need for family planning underpins many of the SDGs. Studies have found that for every $1 invested in family planning, $2-$6 is saved in achieving the millennium development goals (FP2020).Improving livelihoods linked to biodiversity conservation will ensure ecosystems can continue to support flora, fauna and local people. Furthermore, this can also increase resilience for communities whose livelihoods may be affected by climate change. The project supports the Kenyan governments commitments to the CBD. In particular, section 4.1.4. Poverty Alleviation states Initiate and diversify income generation activities by increasing agricultural production of indigenous/traditional crops. The project will upscale apiculture social enterprises. This also supports section 4.3.1. In-Situ Conservation, (Assist local communities to develop environmentally friendly income generating projects), and section 4.5 Agricultural Biodiversity (Promote farming practices that conserve the ecosystem).Through building expertise in apiculture as an alternative livelihood option, the project also supports the Kenyan NAP on the CCC (Land Reform: Build the capacity of land managers in climate change adaptation).
