We will contribute to all three objectives:1. Nature conservation and restorationCurrently, 10% of the site supports a huge diversity of wildlife, including 28 Natural England 's41' Priority Species and 25 Dorset Notable Species. We will transform the surrounding farmland into a species-rich mosaic of woodland, wetland, grassland and wood pasture, permanently maintained through a new conservation grazing regime. An impoverished stretch of the river Axe running through the site will be restored through brash sediment management, creating into a vibrant ecosystem.2. Nature-based solutions, particularly for climate change mitigation and adaptionThe project will sequester carbon in both living trees and wetland soils. Restoration of the River Axe will increase flooding on site, (brining habitat benefits to wading birds), and so reduce the risk of flooding downstream .3. Connecting people with natureOver 1000 people will be engaged in environmental educational and eco-therapeutic opportunities on site, using habitat restoration as a catalyst for change in their lives and behaviours.7 new jobs will be created - two permanent posts and 5 paid work placements for young people. Our project has been planned over the last 18 months and is ready for an immediate start.
