Degradation of Kenyas sacred Kaya forests threatens biodiversity and livelihoods: endemic trees forfuelwood/medicine/fruit; golden-rumped elephant-shrew; endemic butterflies; nutritious indigenous vegetables.Biodiversity in Kayas and landscapes will be protected and restored by:Establishing a Biocultural Heritage Territory that empowers Kaya elders to enforce conservation rules;Building capacity to generate alternative income;Restoring endangered trees and elephant-shrew habitat;Halving fuelwood consumption;Restoring multi-purpose trees on-farm, reducing pressure on Kayas;Restoring agrobiodiversity, butterflies and ecological connectivity.

The Kasane Conference made a recommendation to Establish, facilitate and support information-sharing mechanisms
to develop knowledge, expertise and best practice in practical experience of involving local people in managing wildlife resources, and in action to tackle IWT. This project responds to that recommendation by establishing a learning and action platform which comprises 1) an online information portal and 2) an on-the-ground forum for locally-driven initiatives from different countries to meet, share lessons and inject community voices into IWT policy-making.

The impacts of COVID-19 on wild meat consumption and trade in Cameroon, both nationally and around the Dja Faunal Reserve (DFR), are elucidated, informing policy and decision support tool development.Understand how COVID-19 has impacted perceptions, consumption and trade of wild meat inCameroon. Building on an existing Oxford-led project. To implement a large-scale mobile phone surveyto address this question in urban and rural areas. Also conduct in-person surveys in DI project sitesaround the DFR to explore such impacts in-depth. The results will inform local, national and internationalpolicymaking and feed into the decision-support tools being developed in the DI project.
