WEST CUMBRIA DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SUPPORT

We work with victims, perpetrators and children that are are/have lived with domestic and sexual abuse. We offer free, long term practical and emotional support to individuals and families across West Cumbria. Our service includes a confidential helpline, 1-1 professional counselling for victims, perpetrators and children, group support for adult victims and children and young people.

It will deliver 1 to 1 counselling a 12 week ....more This funding will be used to continue to provide counselling for those who have experienced domestic and sexual violence in the West Cumbria area. It will deliver 1 to 1 counselling a 12 week educational program and emotional peer support. The project aims to reduce cases of domestic violence in West Cumbria and also support victims through traumatic experiences to create safer and happier families in the area.Organisation WCDVS is a is a CIO registered in 2020 although has been in existence for 25 years. WCDVS work with victims perpetrators and children that are are/have lived with domestic and sexual abuse. The organisation offers free long term practical and emotional support to individuals and families across West Cumbria. The service includes a confidential helpline an informative website 1-1 professional counselling for victims perpetrators and children group support for adult victims and children and young people. The impact they currently make is sizable for their community. In 2021 they had 185 clients actively engaged in counselling services. Over the 12-month period for 1st April 2021 to 31st March 2022 they received 375 additional referrals for individuals that had never accessed their services before. 307 were adults and 68 were children and young people meaning a total of 560 individuals directly accessed their services in 2021-2022. WCDVS has a good reputation amongst the community often chosen as the charity of choice in local funding drives and is supported by and accepts many referrals from other organisations and statutory bodies in the area such as police GPs and Housing associations. Proposal Funding will enable a reduction of their waiting lists and also undertake the following activities:• 1-1 counselling to 80 adults each week on average each client will receive 12-24 x 1 hour sessions depending on level of trauma.• 12 week educational programme 8 clients per programme – total 24 clients every 3 month
