GGM UK aims for young womens voices to be heard in order to achieve a more equitable, fair, accurate and ethical media universe. We will equip young women with new marketable skills that not only enhance their own opportunities but affect the lives of other girls and women by creating a more balanced media universe with relatable, confidence-building content. Increasing the number of healthy and complex images of women and girls in media has a lasting effect on women and girls, giving them the confidence to strive for success. Young people between the ages of 15 and 24 make up approximately 40% of the worlds unemployed population. Teaching them relevant new media, leadership and communication skills will help lower that percentage. Young women work their way out of poverty by staying in secondary school, getting a job, or going on to further education. Young womens increased confidence, self-esteem and feelings of self worth help positively change their individual lives, families and communities. Increased positive messages and role models for young girls represented in the media affect girls and young womens community participation and future prospects Young women are directly involved in changing the problematic universal media system by creating and consuming positive media stories, featuring young women as the center of the story which changes the way the story is told. News, media stories and the film arts are positive affected with the inclusion of diverse experiences, voices and viewpoints 100 % of the girls we have trained so far have reported feeling more empowered after their training. 80 % of them are still studying or working in media.
