The "River Chew Re-connected will deliver a suite of green recovery projects & engagement, enabling local communities to adapt to a changing climate including:1. Nature-based solutions, climate change mitigation & adaptation improve water quality; increase riparian habitat and quality of spawning riffles; reduction in soil loss from agriculture, potential floodplain buffer to act as a carbon sink once habitat functionality restored. Accumulative impact of measures will benefit people & nature within this rapid response catchment.Proposals have landowner approval in principle.2. Nature conservation and restoration - restoration of river & riparian habitat to deliver benefits in a sensitive water catchment that is currently failing Water Framework Directive.3. Connection of local people with nature through project events, talks, volunteering and on-line resources; the need for this is highlighted by the general publics response to COVID-19 & their rediscovery of the benefits of making a connection with nature & inspire individual behavioural change.4. Job creation & sustaining jobs in the conservation sector - support 6 existing conservation jobs and creation of 1 PTE. setting up a River Chew Reconnected partnership as part of the bids legacy which would seek to attract further funding, deliver more for nature and create more employment opportunities.
