The funding will be used to recruit and train more family support volunteers to build the organisation's capacity and support them in running their activities. Home-Start Sittingbourne and Sheppey provides a unique early response service that directly addresses families’ individual needs providing a lasting a positive impact on the development of children and on the health and wellbeing of families across Swale.

The volunteer mother's skills and experience of working with families who need support will help vulnerable parents learn how to cope with family life, gain parenting skills, increase their knowledge of local services and increase their confidence in their ability to cope without the volunteers support The volunteer will gain experience of working with a vulnerable family in their own home, understanding the importance of maintaining confidentiality, sharing information to help the mother not taking over but enabling the mother to take care of her family. The volunteer will gain confidence in her own ability to help others, gain experience which will help her to choose the type of employment she would be happy to do. The volunteer will gain confidence to seek further training and courses which will help her to gain employment The parent will be supported to use local services such as children's centres which will enable her to make new friends, decrease her isolation and increase her and the children's social networks The volunteer will learn about services and organisations in the community on the preparation course that she may be interested in joining to increase her social networks. The parent will be encouraged to use her local pre-school or nursery so that the children can meet and play with their peers. The volunteers will be invited to meet with all of our volunteers and trustees at social events, some make friendships during the preparation course.

The project will support the most disadvantaged families, using experienced volunteers to help parents prepare their children for nursery/school, creating routines, boundaries and helping with daily living skills.

Our Twins Club enables parents to meet, share experiences, learn from each other & enjoy the challenges of having multiple birth children.
