NORTHERN ROOTS

Northern Roots promotes in excess of 100 concerts a year in reggae, soul, blues, in Newcastle and Gateshead. The organisation has since the late 198O's worked hard to attract a culturally diverse audience to our concerts. We have developed mentoring projects with refugees as well as work with young people in culturally diverse schools. .
Analysis by Giving is Great

Positives:

  • A significant proportion of recent income was derived from major grant makers and there are significant future grants due to be received
  • The Board appears to be dynamic in terms of composition

Regulatory & Governance issues to consider:

  • Why are there 16 trustees whereas the Charities Commission recommends a maximum of 12?

Financial issues to consider:

  • Income has been volatile recently and was significantly lower than spending in the latest year
  • A PartB annual return has not been required and so detailed financial information is not available from the online data
