The Drop-ins provide a welcome centre for asylum seekers and refugees living locally in Bristol and the opportunity to meet in a place of safety where they can access advice and offer support to each other. Our members live on very restricted funds or receive no funding at all. They rely on charities to meet their basic needs such as eating a hot meal, learning English and getting donated clothes etc. and because the Drop-ins have been running successfully for some years we are recognised within this community for this work. Asylum seekers and refugees are encouraged to access training and take leadership roles within the charities within the legal boundaries of their status. _x000D_
We have a large and growing number of registered volunteers who want to offer their help to asylum seekers and refugees and the Drop-ins provide a local opportunity for this and to be part of a community group with others. All volunteers are trained; references are required and ongoing support is provided to them. The Drop-ins provide special welcome centres where everyone grows together. _x000D_
Over the past year we have seen increased demand for our services with more asylum seekers and refugees attending our welcome centres and increased enquiries about volunteering from members of the public. We have also developed our skills in fundraising and actively seek funds from faith and community groups locally and nationally in addition to applying to charitable grant-making trusts. We evaluate and monitor our projects to make them even more effective.
