This funding will support the cost of essential IT equipment needed to support a recently appointed Admin Support Officer who supports the small team of staff. The group has taken on an additional counselling room and recruited more volunteer counsellors allowing them to support double the number of clients from low-income backgrounds who have experienced past or recent trauma and require longer term support. This will help support rent and longer-term growth.

Our project aims to improve the health and wellbeing of women suffering with eating disorders by providing long-term, dedicated counselling support to the individuals affected as well as regular workshop sessions for the families of the individuals to help wider understanding about the illness and ways to aid recovery. We aim to help reduce risks to physical and psychological wellbeing, encourage healthy eating, and help the client to develop healthy ways of coping with the thoughts and feelings behind the eating disorder. Through the project, we aim to reduce relapse and hospital readmissions and ultimately enable the women we support to reintegrate with society whilst maintaining a healthy relationship with food. It is recognised that individuals have better recovery rates and a reduced risk of relapse when they receive early intervention. Early intervention may also reduce the need for hospitalisation. Delays in starting assessment and treatment can affect response to treatment, with a longer delay having a greater effect on outcomes. This project aims to provide a quick access route to counselling support for women with eating disorders in order to begin recovery quickly and effectively. The project also aims to remove financial barriers to accessing support, which can often be a huge contributory factor to the stress that both the individual and often their families experience. We aim to be a safe space where the primary focus is improving the womans mental health, and where they can engage in their full, holistic recovery without the distress of financial difficulties. Similarly, the project aims to offer long-term support to the individuals, rather than offering a mandatory number of sessions, in order that the clients wellbeing and recovery is at the heart of the service provided and can continue for the appropriate length of time for the individual client.
