    How do they operate?

    The Scottish Women’s Rights Centre (SWRC)

    Objectives: Our Centre strives to fill the gaps that exist between women’s experiences of gender-based violence and their ability to access justice by working with specialist solicitors and experienced advocacy workers. Our services include helplines, legal advice surgeries, advocacy support and legal representation.

    Beneficiaries: women who have been affected by abuse and violence in Scotland.

    Description: The SWRC is an innovative collaborative project which brings together the expertise of JustRight Scotland with Rape Crisis Scotland and the University of Strathclyde Law Clinic.

    The Scottish Refugee & Migrant Centre

    Objectives: We deliver legal advice targeting 4 key areas of work: children, women, family reunion and destitution. Our team also hosts two projects – Just Citizens and Ukraine Advice Scotland – and a second-tier immigration and asylum advice line.

    Beneficiaries: Migrant and refugees.

    Location: Scotland

    Description: We provide a legal service which specifically focuses on the areas where refugees and migrants find it difficult to realise their rights, including in the immigration/asylum and child care system systems. We also deliver specialist second-tier advice, as well as training and outreach, to better professional understanding of refugee and migrant children’s rights.

    The Scottish Anti-Trafficking & Exploitation Centre

    Objectives: Our Scottish Anti-Trafficking & Exploitation Centre is the only specialist legal project in Scotland that provides direct legal advice and representation to child and adult survivors of trafficking and exploitation in Scotland regardless of nationality, gender, type of exploitation and geographical location.

    Beneficiaries: Child and adult survivors of trafficking and exploitation.

    Description: We provide free specialist legal advice on all legal matters relating to an individual’s experience of trafficking and/or exploitation.

    We provide legal advice and representation across a number of different legal areas including asylum, immigration, family reunion, employment law, compensation, housing/support and the criminal justice process. We advise individuals and at different stages of their ‘journey’ to facilitate early identification of victims as well as establish integration steps to prevent further harm/exploitation and keep individuals safe.

    We ensure our legal advice, assistance, and representation is trauma informed, human rights focussed, and holistic.

    The Scottish Just Law Centre

    Objectives: Our Scottish Just Law Centre aims to reduce discrimination and disadvantage in Scotland by helping people use equalities and human rights law as an effective tool for social change.

    Beneficiaries: People who experience discrimination and disadvantage under the Equality Act.

    Location: Scotland

    Description: If a public body, public service provider or employer treats somebody less favourably because they have one of these protected characteristics, our Scottish Just Law Centre may be able to help them take legal action, by way of judicial review, or Sheriff Court proceedings.
