HARLEY'S ALMSHOUSES

The original purpose of the charity was to house 18 poor, elderly woman of Hay-on-Wye or the surrounding district. During 1973/74 extensive alterations were made to provide more modern accomodation for 12 women.

FOUR OF THE ALMSPEOPLE SHALL HAVE RESIDED FOR AT LEAST THREE YERS IN THE ANCIENT PARISH OF HAY OR SOME OTHER PLACE IN THE COUNTY OF BRECONSHIRE, WHITLST EIGHT SHALL HAVE RESIDED IN ONE OF THE COUNTIES OF BRECKNOCK, RADNOR OR HEREFORD FOR THE SAME PERIOD OF TIME.
