THE JAMIE DEVANEY MEMORIAL FUND

Having completed the building of the new mental health centre at Kisiizi Hospital, Uganda, The Jamie Devaney Memorial Fund embarked on a new phase to support the development of community mental health outreach services. Initially this involved the hospitals in Bwindi, Kagando and Kisiizi but has now spread to 27 hospitals and health centres in the east, west and centre of the country.
Analysis by Giving is Great

Positives:

  • The Board appears to be well diversified in terms of gender

Regulatory & Governance issues to consider:

  • The Board composition appears to be very static

Financial issues to consider:

  • A PartB annual return has not been required and so detailed financial information is not available from the online data
  • On several occasions in recent years income has been less than spending

Objectives

The Objects of the Charity are : To relieve suffering from mental health conditions in Uganda irrespective of race, religion, creed, sexual orientation, age or gender. The Charity collaborates with mental health staff and their hospitals to improve access to better care and treatment for people with mental illness or epilepsy. We do this by supporting training, including that developed by the World Health Organisation, to hospitals and communities and by supporting aspects of mental health service delivery.
