Partnerships need to consider the ....more The Water Environment Improvement Fund (WEIF) grant is to support the maintenance of partnerships across Englands catchments, primarily to deliver a catchment based approach to water, land and flood management. Partnerships need to consider the targets of the 25 year environment plan, including: clean and plentiful water, thriving plants and wildlife, using resources from nature more sustainably and efficiently, enhancing beauty, heritage and engagement with the natural environment and mitigating and adapting to climate change. This focus will include actions to deliver improvements to the Water Environment (Water Framework Directive) (England & Wales) Regulations 2017 objectives, climate crisis, biodiversity crisis, flood risk, coastal erosion, growing population, plastics and land management delivered through an integrated catchment approach. Managing the water environment (including rivers, lakes, groundwater, estuaries and the sea) can be very complex and requires balancing the priorities and needs of multiple water users, landowners, and organisations with differing roles and responsibilities considering how to maximise natural capital and net gain. Individual grant values range from £3,250 for sub-catchments to £250,000 for the Catchment Based Approach (CaBA) National Support Group (NSG).

£117,750	21/06/2021	The Dee Blue Recovery project (DeeBR) is led by The Welsh Dee Trust in partnership with Reaseheath College and supported by the Middle Dee Catchment partnership.DeeBR is a new project that will improve the water and wider environment of the English ....more The Dee Blue Recovery project (DeeBR) is led by The Welsh Dee Trust in partnership with Reaseheath College and supported by the Middle Dee Catchment partnership.DeeBR is a new project that will improve the water and wider environment of the English section of the River Dee. The project will achieve this by establishing ecosystem services contracts with landowners to deliver habitat restoration & reduce diffuse pollution, this is supported by community engagement to create awareness around local problems for the water environment and then collaborating to implement solutions for these problems. This project contributes to all three themes of the Green Recovery fund and working towards targets set out in the Dee's River Basin Management Plan and the Governments 25-year environment plan.The project will create one FTE job and retain one FTE job. In addition, the project will help young people gain work experience by creating one four-month paid placement and undertaking the required admin to help farms or other stakeholders to employ two apprentices. This project is ready to start because it will deliver interventions already identified in the area by river habitat surveys and earlier projects such as the Dee Water Environment Grant project.

(A) TO SECURE THE CONSERVATION, REHABILITATION, PROTECTION AND IMPROVEMENT OF THERIVER DEE, ITS TRIBUTARIES, STREAMS AND WATERCOURSES OF EVERY DESCRIPTION AND OF THEBANKS, RIPARIAN LANDS AND ALL AREAS COMPRISING THE CATCHMENT OF THE RIVER IN ALLTHEIR ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS.(B) TO SECURE THE CONSERVATION (AND WHERE APPROPRIATE) THE REHABILITATION OF ALL THEINDIGENOUS SPECIES OF BIRD, ANIMAL, FISH AND PLANT LIFE IN THE SAID RIVER.(C) TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF THE PUBLIC IN THE UNDERSTANDING OF RIVERS AND THE NEEDFOR A HEALTHY RIVER IN ORDER TO SUSTAIN ANIMAL, FISH AND PLANT LIFE THEREIN.(D) TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF THE PUBLIC IN THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE RIVER BANK ANDITS ANIMAL AND PLANT LIFE AND THE NEED FOR CONSERVATION AND IMPROVEMENT OFENVIRONMENTS OF THE RIVER AND THE RIVER BANK.(E) TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF THE PUBLIC IN THE NEED FOR THE PROPER MANAGEMENT OFWATER.
