    Objectives

    6.1 The SCIO will promote, advance and further charitable purposes primarily by (1) generating, through the promotion of a society lottery, funds to support the SCIO to then be able to (2) operate as a 'grant giving' charity which will support (through financial distributions to charities, community groups and others) the community through the promotion of education, improvement of health, skills and social development, community engagement and citizenship. In doing so the financial distributions will seek to alleviate the impact of poverty, financial hardship, disability, illness or socio-economic disadvantage, with the aim of ensuring that local communities have the opportunity to grow and develop to their full potential. 6.2 For the purposes of the 2005 Act, the following charitable purposes are (i) particularly relevant and (ii) are the charitable purposes identified as applicable from section 7 of the 2005 Act:- 6.2.1 Prevention of relief of poverty 6.2.2 Advancement of Education 6.2.3 Advancement of Health 6.2.4 The Saving of Lives 6.2.5 The advancement of citizenship or community development 6.2.6 The advancement of arts, heritage, culture or science 6.2.7 The advancement of public participation in sport 6.2.8 The provision of recreational facilities or organisation of recreational activities with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended. 6.2.9 The relief of those in need by reason of age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage. 6.2.10 Advancement of animal welfare 6.2.11 Any other purpose that may reasonably be regarded as analogous to any of the preceding purposes. 6.3 For the purposes of the Taxes Acts the provisions set out in clauses 6.1 and 6.2 shall be read together to ensure the charitable purposes of the SCIO are compliant with the Taxes Act.
