Our project will work with women refugees and asylum seekers (RAS) within Newport, who will have the opportunity to engage in peer supported initiatives designed and facilitated by women RAS who are more established in the community and supported by technical experts. These women have had the strength and resilience to overcome countless obstacles and hardships to get to the UK, but many of them continue to face multiple disadvantages which impact their emotional wellbeing and mental health. The project will help women RAS to: access the information they need; improve their wellbeing through peer approaches and a community based psychosocial model of support; and create stronger social connections.The content will be co-designed with women RAS to ensure it is relevant, valuable and engaging. The sessions will focus on providing these women with the skills to learn and share ways to look after their mental health and emotional wellbeing together and support each other to seek help when needed. The groups will also take on activities of their choosing to help build trust and strengthen social connections. We aim to empower these women to understand, sustain and protect their mental health and wellbeing so that they can build positive futures for themselves and their families.Training will also be delivered to key British Red Cross staff to equip them with a solid understanding of the issues surrounding mental health and emotional wellbeing and to enable them to co-facilitate group sessions with empathy, validation, equality, respect, and without judgement.

This project will fund people with learning disabilities (LDs), support workers and future health care professionals to work together to improve understanding and treatment of the mental health problems of people with LDs. 72 people with LDs will be trained as advocates with the presence of health care students who at the same time as supporting them will increase their awareness of the issues these people face. The project will complete an evaluation of the service to examine effectiveness with the aim of replication in other prison settings. This new project aims to improve employment prospects for young people with learning disabilities such as autism, Down's syndrome and cerebral palsy in three schools in Newbury, West Berkshire; New Ash Green, Kent and Ilford in the London Borough of Redbridge.
