To support a new specialist counselling service for children and young people (CYP) aged 5-18yrs that have experienced domestic abuse.

We aim to provide safe, secure and comfortable accommodation for 16-24 year old girls who are pregnant, experiencing domestic abuse and at risk of becoming homeless.

This funding will exclusively support up to 300 young men aged 11-24yrs with one-to one strength based trauma informed mentoring/ counselling support for young men who have witnessed or have experienced domestic abuse. The project aims to improve mental health issues tackle poor school attendance and support those who are at risk of engaging in anti-social behaviour as a result of their trauma.

The funding will be used to establish a forum to support survivors of domestic abuse. The project aims to pilot a support group to improve the lives of survivors and their children.

The impact of this project would affect partner agencies already supporting BME communities. It would enable us to strengthen our relationships, find ways of working which would meet the needs of women and young girls who we know do not access current community provision. This project would also have an impact of the women and young girls from BME communities to voice their needs and help to shape future service provision. The project would also build the skills and confidence of women and young girls by gaining knowledge, understanding, trust and confidence.Health and wellbeing would be improved too, as we know from our current provsion that being listened to, and believed, and having advice (even just creating safety plans) can help women feel more confident in making decisions. By providing a similar project in the past, our outreach worker knows that by working together with partner agencies helps more women and young girls to buld their social networks.

Project Liberty will support girls and young women between 11 and 24 years to eliminate the risk of abuse and empower girls to be free from coercive relationships and improve their life chances and aspirations for the future. Figures have shown an increase in young girls deemed at risk in relationships in the area. Long-term support will include helping them with recognition of their emotions, coping strategies and improvement in their confidence and self-esteem.
