The service will also be extended to the Chinese community in Cardiff and online to the Chinese community in all parts of Wales. The project will support Mandarin and Cantonese requests from people wanting to access public services or understand public guidance or policies such as COVID-19 guidance. The project will continue to provide one-to-one support to all newcomers from an ethnic Chinese background including new migrants from Hong Kong vulnerable adults asylum seekers refugee families and victims of crime in south Wales.

They will provide an advocacy role to families supporting them through meetings with health professionals schools and support services. They will offer tailored support to families to make sure their children's needs are met. They have received a grant of £440332 over five years. The Stand Up for Yourself project will undertake specialist casework for Chinese refugees, asylum seekers and their families, as well as victims of hate crime. It will be supported by volunteers who will be able to access training opportunities to develop skills around community engagement and will also work closely with third sector organisations to enhance their knowledge around supporting individuals with Chinese heritage through training and workshops. The project will benefit 200 families._x000D_ _x000D_ What Money is for :_x000D_ The total cost of the project is £106,969.00. The grant of £99,769, over two years is for salaries, recruitment costs, training, freelance fees, travel expenses, training, travel and other expenses, marketing and communication and overheads. It will also fund a full-time and a full-time project manager.

Objectives

TO PROMOTE SOCIAL INCLUSION FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT BY WORKING WITH PEOPLE IN WALES WHO ARE SOCIALLY EXCLUDED ON THE GROUNDS OF THEIR ETHNIC ORIGIN, AGE, DISABILITY, ILL HEALTH, POVERTY AND OTHER PERSONAL CIRCUMSTANCES, IN PARTICULAR MEMBERS OF THE CHINESE COMMUNITY, TO RELIEVE THE NEEDS OF SUCH PEOPLE AND ASSIST THEM TO INTEGRATE INTO SOCIETY, IN PARTICULAR BY:A) PROMOTING COMMUNITY COHESION, BOTH WITHIN THE ETHNIC CHINESE COMMUNITY AND THE WIDER COMMUNITY;B) DELIVERING TO AND REPRESENTING THE CHINESE COMMUNITY INCLUDING DISABLED PEOPLE, CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE AS WELL AS ELDERLY PEOPLE, IN PLANNING AND SERVICE DELIVERY TO ENSURE THEIR WIDER WELL-BEING;C) SUPPORTING MEMBERS OF THE ETHNIC CHINESE COMMUNITY FACING DISADVANTAGE TO ADDRESS THE INEQUALITIES THAT THEY FACE AND PARTICIPATE FULLY IN SOCIETY;D) PROMOTING BOTH CHINESE AND WELSH CULTURES AND HERITAGE;E) HAVING DUE REGARD TO THE PROVISIONS OF THE EQUALITY ACT.
