The funding programme aims to support organisations working to sustain and improve access to early social welfare and family legal support and advice, to enable users to resolve these problems as early as possible and avoid the need for court or tribunal proceedings where possible. Where court or tribunal proceedings are needed, we expect the grant to provide the support needed to help people navigate the process effectively, including where support to prepare for court and at court is required.

This project will provide support sessions for disadvantaged young people affected by domestic abuse. The sessions will help to improve their ability to manage their emotions, reduce their risk of harm and help them to feel more positively empowered.

This project will build social networks for women by enabling standard and Medium survivors of domestic abuse to meet through a Virtual/online Survivors Group and/or a Survivors Drop In. Survivors will share experiences and common interests, learning from and supporting each other. This support for as long as needed by survivors will enable clients to gain confidence in making positive life choices e.g., retaining jobs or getting new ones, start training or volunteering, living in safer or new accommodation, enabling health improvements and shared understanding of how abuse impacts on them and their children, and to support their for children to settle better at nursery/school. The project will also provide on-going support over the telephone to those that prefer this to face-to-face support. This will enable victims to obtain on-going telephone support and gain the confidence to make decisions and take action to make them and their children safe. Risk assessments will be carried out and clients will be supported to put a safety plan in place to keep them and their children safe. Volunteer telephone support for these clients on an on-going basis will increase the likelihood that they will take action, to obtain the protective injunctions they need to protect them and their families and they can be offered DAVSS support-to-court services and a volunteer to accompany them to court if needed. Also, on completion of customised telephone support clients can be referred to the Virtual Survivors Group and/or Drop in depending on their needs. No-one will be turned away and clients will gain confidence from knowing support is available to all for as long as they feel they need it. They will also feel less socially isolated by sharing experiences and hearing from others who have also experienced domestic abuse.
