The funding will help to develop a more informed and comprehensive 3-year strategic plan, with the need to consider our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion stance. We would like to undertake workshops with an outside consultant. This links to providing a ‘women only space’ and including those identifying as transgender, for which we anticipate the need for careful consideration and input from collaborative partners. In addition, we have the opportunity to change the culture of Joanna House drop-in. During the pandemic our service continued, adjusting swiftly to a mobile delivery model. We are keen to explore how to ensure that what we offer in our building continues to meet the needs of our current service users.

The funding will continue to help and care for women who are involved in the sex trade. This funding will enable the organisation to further develop their ‘safe space’ accessible sanctuary (Joanna House) and improve their outreach work during the day and evenings so more women can be supported through issues such as addiction mental health problems or homelessness.

The project focuses on the needs of each woman through individual and group activities. They provide support to individuals looking at the root causes of their issues. Activities include a hot meal in a ‘family’ environment, gardening, cinema visits, attending the nail bar and cooking. This project will also work with members of the local community to improve community relationships, develop their understanding of the issues of street sex workers in their area and provide volunteering opportunities.
