The funding will support Age UK Cheshire to deliver and expand their financial Information and Advice service for people over 65 to help older people facing financial difficulty across Cheshire. Age UK Cheshire (AUKC) based Hartford near Northwich is a local social enterprise and charity that is dedicated to later life. They co-produce services with older people make opportunities connect people meaningfully and influence positive change. They are an independent local registered charity but work with others including national Age UK and other local Age UKs who are all also independent charities. They aim to support all older people in Cheshire irrespective of their geographical location health status or financial situation through a range of services .

The funding will be used to expand their current befriending service by increasing the hours of their volunteer coordinator. This will allow the organisation to increase their volunteer numbers giving them capacity to engage with the increasing number of referrals they are receiving and supporting many more older people living in isolation with little social contact.

Age UK Cheshire is a local charity working across Cheshire that is dedicated to later life. They co-produce excellent services, make opportunities, connect people meaningfully and influence positive change. They support all older people in Cheshire and offer services to people 50 years and over. The project will allow them to continue their telephone befriending service, Sharing Time. A grant will pay for staffing and management costs, needed to deliver the service and manage volunteers. Sharing Time seeks to reduce the risk of loneliness and isolation amongst older people in Cheshire by delivering a telephone befriending service, with regular calls to older people, most of whom are living alone, in order to make meaningful friendships and relationships and to reduce the risk of loneliness and social isolation.

While older women are keen to join in lifelong learning activities, older men tend to be more reticent and reluctant. The project focuses on woodworking, however other 'sheds' will be considered such as metalworking, art or music.
