The funding will be used to develop the organisation's support service to vulnerable women who have been affected by the trauma of domestic abuse/violence. They will provide additional sessions and craft activities and will be able to train more volunteers enabling them to meet the current demand for their service. The project aims to provide women with emotional support advice help them build new friendships and reduce loneliness.

Our experience shows us that if you provide a women-only place of safety, that is comfortable, offers encouragement and provides the means for your self esteem to grow, you will see women transformed. They begin to believe they can achieve a better way of life. The transformation takes time and we as volunteers have learnt to be very patient encouragers. To make articles for their homes has been a great buzz for our ladies, however to make this possible the craft materials have to be a good standard and so a good proportion of our funding goes towards achieving this. We as volunteers talk a great deal about healthy living especially around the food we provide for their Monday lunch. We also encourage our ladies to keep all their appointments with statutory agences etc., and if necessary help them to do so. As the ladies who come to us get to know one another they make plans to meet up outside our hours, and over a period of 3.5 years we have seen many friendships taking shape. However, we will always have those who have been so damaged in life they keep themselves to themselves because they find it very difficult to trust anyone. However, it is a great privilege when the learn to trust us (volunteers). Agencies are very pleased with the service we offer their clients. One lady who has recently visited us in a very bad state of health, is now in Haytor (Mental Health/Torbay Hospital) and we are working with them to ensure she recovers and is safe. She is allowed to visit us and then return to the Hospital, helping her to regain her independence from substance misuse, and to be in a right mind.
