BUSHMEAD COMMUNITY CENTRE

Bushmead Community Hub runs the community centre in Bushmead, Luton, to save it from closure under the local authority. We hire out rooms and a hall, which are used by a diverse range of community groups., hire facilities for social bookings and work with local interest groups to support and encourage cohesion in the community. We run several groups for children and adults in the community.
Analysis by Giving is Great

Positives:

  • There has been strong growth in spending over the last 5 years
  • A significant proportion of recent income was derived from major grant makers including the Government

Regulatory & Governance issues to consider:

  • Although this charity works with volunteers it does not have a Volunteer Management policy

Financial issues to consider:

  • Income was significantly lower than spending in the latest year
  • A PartB annual return has not been required and so detailed financial information is not available from the online data

To be used for
Bedfordshire and Luton Community Foundation - We usually shut on a Friday afternoon so will need to have a staff member on site, which is a weekly cost of £60. We will not be taking any hirers in the room we are using as a warm Hub which would usually be an income of up to £100 per day therefore a small proportion will be used to offset this. The room will also need to be cleaned each day which is an extra 30 minutes to our cleaning budget. We will provide tea, coffee and soup, along with cold drinks and biscuits. We will also heat the room.
