Playing It Forward seeks to transform the lives of adolescent girls (AG) and young women (YW) in Zambia, through sport and lifeskills training. Its three year plan is to provide economic empowerment to a group of 150 young women and girls who have completed previous training, as well as bringing in a further 1200 girls as new joiners for the Goal programme. To begin, a local market analysis of openings for girls in the labour market and businesses will inform and lead to group teaching, individual mentoring and support in finding work and internships in sports or other sectors. Some girls will also be helped to set up their own small businesses with start-up grants and seed funding.

Despite having a well-established sport for development sector, there is limited understanding of how to address gender inequity and promote the meaningful engagement of girls in sport in Brazil. This project will enable Rio-based organisation Empodera to deliver high quality girls' sports programming whilst also establishing themselves as a Centre of Excellence in girls' empowerment through sport. 25 Champions (young female leaders) will benefit from in-depth leadership and digital story-telling training and will, in turn, facilitate 400 adolescent girls to design and implement sport-themed projects with seed funding. Empodera will also provide training and support to ten Brazilian sport development organisations in girls' empowerment through sport.

Women Win have applied in partnership with the Horn of Africa Development Initiative (HODI) to run a programme using football to tackle the cultural and stigmatic issue of FGM for young girls in the Northern Kenyan city of Marsabit. The programme will run weekly sessions in schools and work with the three key groups: young girls, their families and local religious figures. This three pronged approach will culminate in 'dropping of the knives' ceremonies that happen in spring and at harvest time when marriages spike. The project aims to shift cultural attitudes and help reduce the practice of FGM.

There are high levels of poverty, crime, HIV, and youth unemployment in the townships of the Tshwane District of South Africa. Adolescent girls and young women are a particularly vulnerable group, experiencing high levels of gender based violence, including rape.This project uses sport as an entry point to provide a safe space for engagement with girls, and also as a way of engaging with the wider community about rights, violence, and sexual and reproductive health. Young women will be trained as leaders to deliver the activities in primary schools.This will improve the ability of girls and young women to influence decisions that impact their lives and facilitate access to services.

Women Win will deliver a programme in partnership with The Naz Foundation, to strengthen the work already delivered by Naz via their Goal Programme. Goal is delivered twice a week to young women, integrating netball and lifeskills education. This focuses on promotion of self-confidence, communication skills, health and hygiene and financial literacy. Once girls complete the 10 month programme they have the opportunity to become Goal Champions, who are trained to deliver the programme themselves.The aim of this programme is to establish Naz as a centre of excellence. The project will directly benefit 2,310 young people aged 12-20 (1,490 female and 820 male) in Delhi and Mumbai who are living with or at risk of HIV and at risk of exploitation and abuse.
