HARLOW STEELBAND

Harlow Steelband offers local young people the chance to take part in weekly steel pan workshops. The band runs rehearsal sessions with a tutor week in Harlow. These sessions are free for all young people to join. The band offers a very different musical ensemble to other local music groups, as young people require no existing musical ability to join the band.
Analysis by Giving is Great

Positives:

  • The charity has received backing from a grant maker and there are significant future grants due to be received

Regulatory & Governance issues to consider:

  • This charity does not have a Conflict of Interests policy
  • Why is the Board completely female?
  • Why is the Board composition very static?

Financial issues to consider:

  • Spending has fallen significantly over the last 5 years relative to the previous period
  • Income has been volatile and on several occasions in recent years less than spending
  • A PartB annual return has not been required and so detailed financial information is not available from the online data
