MATHSWORLDUK

MathsWorldUK is a company that has the intention of setting up a museum/discovery centre for mathematics in the UK. During the year 2019-20 MathsWorldUK raised funds to equip and put forth a touring mathematics exhibition. We are about to open a physical centre, known as MathsCity, in Leeds so that we can display to the public many mathematical exhibits, puzzles games, etc.
Analysis by Giving is Great

Positives:

  • The charity has received backing from a grant maker
  • There has been strong growth in spending over the last 5 years
  • The Board appears to be well diversified in terms of age and gender and dynamic in terms of composition

Regulatory & Governance issues to consider:

  • Although this charity works with volunteers it does not have a Volunteer Management policy
  • There are 13 trustees whereas the Charities Commission recommends a maximum of 12
  • Over half the Board have joined recently

Financial issues to consider:

  • A PartB annual return has not been required and so detailed financial information is not available from the online data
  • There has been a change of accounting period recently, so trends may be hard to determine
  • On several occasions in recent years income has been less than spending
