£2,021	23/09/2021	We offer the opportunity to swim in a small community swimming pool, open to all irrespective of their ability to pay. We run courses within the pool for all ages from older members (like aquarobics) ....more We offer the opportunity to swim in a small community swimming pool, open to all irrespective of their ability to pay. We run courses within the pool for all ages from older members (like aquarobics) through to mothers and tots swimming sessions. The purpose of all of our sessions are to encourage physical, mental well being through exercise and contact with others. We also offer training for interested people, particularly younger swimmers to train to become qualified lifeguards, a key skill not only for the pool but also for the young people enabling them to gain employment during vacations, term times etc. We have also helped with rehabilititaion post operation/medical events, rebuilding confidence and self esteem for the person concerned. We are keen to provide elements of challenge for our swimmers if they want to try it, so for example we have a group of local school children doing a sponsored open water swim to raise funds for the pool, supporting them with training and support as they embark on this significant challenge. We also, using the 'basic' cafe/shop we have provide an opportunity for social contact for isolated members of the community to enjoy a chat, coffee and cake before or after their swim. We also have a strong group of volunteers, enabling us to work around challenges like the isolation of our chief lifeguards because of being pinged, providing cover to allow the pool to open and run as normal. They are willing to do virtually anything to enable the pool to remain open and accessible to the community, from power-washing the pool side to cleaning and painting as required.
