Creative arts such as drawing, sewing and relaxation will be offered at cost the local community (this will pay teacher fees) and for free to clients. This will enable the community to come to Oasis Cardiff develop skills and tools alongside refugees and asylum seekers as well as breaking down barriers and sharing a common ground. This project will also be a way of developing self worth and confidence in clients. Clients that have skills in different areas will be supported to share and develop them. The funding will enable Oasis Cardiff to employ an Integration worker to focus on this projects development, engage with artists and teachers to run workshops. The funding will also pay for equipment, any travel costs and a small contribution to core costs. There will also be some publicity costs. At the end of the project some of the funding will be used to hold an exhibition will be held show casing the work done and reflecting peoples journeys on the project. This will also be used as a springboard to develop the project on a sustainable footing.
13/12/2018 £4,947 Erlas Victorian Walled Garden 3? 'Veg Patch To Plate' is a project that we plan to deliver in two phases over a 12-18 month period. Phase 1: the creation of accessible/raised vegetable beds and the relocation and re-covering of a polytunnel. A weekly session will involve discussion about healthy eating, the crops that we will grow and how those crops will be used (different recipes and taster sessions). Phase 2: construction of a small, shed-based kitchen space for basic cooking experiences, preserving of produce and provision of refreshments to garden visitors. This will also provide more indoor space for inclement-weather activities. We are applying for funding for phase 1, during which time 4-6 new raised beds will be built by volunteers (regular and corporate) and local college students. We have a polytunnel structure which is currently used for storage, but will provide much needed growing space, in another area of the Garden. This will be relocated early on in the project and recovered with polythene. Being able to increase our indoor growing capacity will have a number of benefits: increased number of seedlings for the garden and to sell; increased supply of temperate crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers and chillies; plus it will provide indoor activity space for those cold and/or rainy days. Phase 1 will also see us welcoming new Garden users, from another local Charity, which we hope will be the first of many new small partnership projects, where we are able to share resources and support each other’s work.

Problem: Cardiff houses a large number of homeless families and Young People in temporary emergency accommodation. Our research has shown that the major factor in this cohort becoming homeless is due to relationship breakdown. We want to deliver relationship training in hostel and skilled volunteer support through transition into homes with homeless families and young people own so they can build, maintain and repair key relationships within their family, friends and key professionals. Evidence shows restorative skills enable families and young people to better manage relationships and conflicts, keep their tenancies, make better life choices and have improved resilience through life.

We developed our Crisis Support Scheme in 2017 to respond to local need in providing an interim housing solution for young people at a point or risk or crisis in their lives, when they require safe emergency accommodation. Based on the successful pilot (1 x 4 bed staffed provision), we now wish to extend our services to develop additional schemes in Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot. The community grant would enable us to minimise additional charges to the placing authority or to young people in relation to our overhead and development costs in running the additional schemes.
