Further funding will allow us to continue to be a bridging service and work in partnerships with statutory services to reach more vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the heart of these BME communities. This funding will allow us to be a strong bridging service and work in partnerships with statutory services who struggle to engage with these 'Hard to reach BME communities' that delivers a needs based support service. We understand that working with marginalised communities has its challenges and we have worked hard to break through these barriers, and to build trust within these communities. This funding will help us to continue bridging these gaps and reduce the barriers by allowing people from all communities to engage in services and have equal access to opportunities, treatment, care, and services. People from BME communities have difficulties disclosing hardships. There is a tendency to keep everything hidden because of stigma and labelling. This can have detrimental effects on people, families, and extends out within these communities. By working with families, we can change this and make the greatest impact to their lives and the communities. We have established strong links with partner agencies as well as building trust within these communities. Further funding will allow us to continue to do this. Supporting people and families to work together, help them gain a better understanding of other family member's views and concerns, including cultural and social difficulties. Encouraging people to access help and support before they reach crisis point is key. Supporting people in a culturally sensitive manner, recognising cultural traditions, issues and barriers helps us to support people with respect. My Home My Scottish Castle project will work with disadvantaged people aged 18 - 65 who are not in employment, education or training and are struggling to maintain their tenancies or facing being homeless. We will work with individuals, who are having difficulties with benefits and finding it difficult to understand the welfare system due to language barriers. This project will allow us to work with people who need support with housing and benefit issues. Help them to read, translate and understand letters, address any rent or council tax issues and negotiate any arrears by putting payment plans in place. Help and support to access any relevant benefits. Help them understand the process of appeals and the importance of attending appointments and keeping open communication. We will support them to make budget plans, paying bills, adapting a healthy lifestyle, understanding how to shop well, what to buy, How to work with a lower budget. We will have the opportunity to work in partnership with other organisations, The Rickshaw Project which runs projects on Welfare Rights and Foodbank Services. They provide information, advice and representation to people who are experiencing difficulty in dealing with debts including mortgage/rent/council tax arrears, payment of household bills and credit or catalogue debts, energy efficiency, energy debt and foodbank inquiries. The Yes Me Too Project works with people who have with a special needs child. They promote inclusion through various activities. What makes our project special is that it works with people from a ‘hard to reach group’ within the heart of these communities. Promote inclusion, take control and address their benefit issues. Look at their strengths and help them seek positive solutions and opportunities, self-belief and motivation, build self-confidences, empower them to gain, new skills and progress to further education, training and work.
