Objectives

To promote, maintain, improve and advance public education, appreciation and understanding of the Arts, and in particular the art of playwriting in Scotland in all its aspects by the creation of a national library resource of contemporary Scottish plays, the advancement of informed development and promotion of new plays, and the training of playwrights, to advance the highest standards of achievement in this creative art. In furtherance of the said objects, but not further or otherwise, the Company shall have the following powers: (1) To establish and maintain, develop and promote a central and widely accessible archive or library dedicated to all aspects of contemporary Scottish playwrighting. (2) To commission, procure or promote the commissioning of new plays by contemporary Scottish playwrights. (3) To resource and promote new play development by presenting, organising, managing or producing rehearsed play readings by actors, providing director and dramaturgical support and undertake such other activities and support in furtherance of this object. (4) To create, organise, administrate and manage projects, courses, conferences, exhibitions, displays, meetings, lectures, educational programmes, classes, workshops and seminars and as are conducive to the promotion of the objects of the Company. (5) To provide teaching, instruction, advice and other assistance in connection with the objects provided in this memorandum. (6) to enter into agreements and engagements with actors, archivists, authors, artists, directors, producers, designers, dramaturges, lecturers, teachers, librarians, writers and other such persons and advisers by salary or fees or on a voluntary basis.
