Our vision is to expand Home-Start West Lothian by developing a Social Enterprise Employability/Training Programme, comprising of a High-end style Charity Shop offering accredited training qualifications for individuals in West Lothian looking to gain employment skills and experience in retail industry. For individuals requiring additional support a Home-Start Volunteer will be matched to a trainee to support, encourage and motivate them. The Shop, located in a main street in the hub of the community, in West Lothian will be warm and welcoming, will offer good quality clothes and soft furnishings for sale at a reasonable cost. In the first year we will concentrate on establishing the shop, sourcing our donations through various drop-boxes located in organisations throughout West Lothian. We will engage in a robust marketing campaign to highlight the ongoing need for donations, volunteers and the support of our community. Through various fundraising events in the past year we generated £1500 in one week, with another Thrift Shop booked in for next year. With funds from various fundraising events we have bought a Steamer, Rails, Mannequins, Pricing Gun, Size Tabs, etc. One room is currently being utilised at our offices to receive donations, prepare them for sale, etc. It is hoped that as soon as the Shop is ready for use we can 'drop in' all the sale-able items to open as soon as is possible. We want to be innovative, to generate our own funds especially given the fragile environment we find ourselves in - there are less Trusts around to support us - affected by the loss of their own funds. We want to be different: we want to generate income but we also want to support our families (and others) to gain their financial independence too - I believe this makes us quite special!

This project will support parents with a child under five in West Lothian through the provision of one-to-one volunteering support. The beneficiaries of the project face issues such as isolation, depression, domestic violence, children or parents with special needs or disabilities, and children on the child protection register. The grant will fund salaries,overheads, volunteer expenses, travel expenses for staff, a Home-Start fee, training expenses and stationery.
