This project will see minority groups local to West Dunbartonshire plan and participate in an evening of conversation, food and entertainment. The aim of the project is to bring people from different ethnic communities in West Dunbartonshire together.

We will be able to further raise our profile and help more local residents, particularly with the introduction of Universal Credit and the issues which may arise. We will look at expanding the opening hours of the service and increasing the range of activities covered in our monthly sessions. The funding will help us to do this in a challenging funding environment. We will use the funding to support rental costs providing our community base, recruit and train additional volunteer supporters, print information sheets and activity programmes and cover travel expenses for meeting attendances and member support in addition to funding the costs of our awareness sessions.

We will provide a programme of activity to support the local ethnic minority community in the area better understand and be supported to understand the impact of welfare reform changes. We have been receiving a number of enquiries recently and we expect that to rise as the roll out of welfare reform progresses and the new Scottish social security provisions become clear. We will operate 2 specific weekly drop in sessions, manned by trained volunteers and staff from partner agencies to deal with individual questions and issues We will use our volunteers to provide public awareness sessions across West Dunbartonshire as requested. We will also provide volunteers to attend meetings or appointments with members where they are feel that support and advocacy would be helpful. This is a new project for us but it is an area of work where we have seen a substantial increase in enquiries from our members and one which members have identified as a particular area of interest moving forward. Given the bonds of trust built up by our members with us and the good working relationships we have established with many partners across the area, we are well placed to provide this support.
