We ....more We currently provide help to enable people with disabilities to access welfare benefits, complete applications, help with appeals, and provide information and advice on services and resources. We would like to fund a Benefits Advisor to assist people with disabilities with the introduction of universal credit which is scheduled to commence in Aberdeen City in November, 2018. This application process has to be completed online within one month, and many disabled persons will be unable to undertake this unaided, or do not have access to computer resources. We anticipate that this will have a major impact on people applying for new benefits, causing much anxiety and stress. By allocating an additional advisor to this activity we will help to alleviate financial hardship and improve health and well being. The advice and assistance will be provided to disabled residents of Aberdeen City on a one to one basis and will also include assistance on any related benefit issues. For those with mobility restrictions this may mean arranging a home visit to gather information.

This service has been ....more We want to expand our existing benefits advice service to meet the ever increasing demand from people with disabilities caused by ongoing changes to the benefits system. This service has been established a the result of a real need from people with disabilities who are experiencing extreme hardship as a result of welfare reform, changes to eligibility criteria and assessment process. Having recently acquired spacious new premises which are rent free, we now have the opportunity to increase the provision of advice and information. We plan to introduce regular drop-in benefits advice sessions, twice a week, when people can be seen, one to one, without appointment, in addition to our existing appointment based consultations. We receive referrals on behalf of clients from various voluntary and statutory agencies, such as DWP and Social Work and are aware that other agencies in our area, are unable to meet the demand for their services. We seek to help all persons with disabilities in need of benefits advice in the City of Aberdeen.
