Edinburgh and Lothians Regional Equality Council (ELREC) will work in partnership with Networking Key Services (NKS) to help local ethnic minority communities change their waste and consumption habits. The group will run clothes repair/alteration/sewing classes events such as swap shops and fashion shows and upcycling workshops. They will also deliver leftover cooking workshops based on South Asian recipes with locally sourced food creating a recipe book at the end. They will provide free meals for up to 100 families every week using food diverted from landfill. Educational workshops will also be provided to teach people about composting and wormeries.

This group focuses on health and welfare and has since 1987 has been working for South Asian (Indian Pakistani and Bangladeshi) women and their families living in Edinburgh. The will project will see the group adopt a family approach rather than female carers as they seek to support the COVID-19 recovery process. Marginalized families with children disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic leading to low socio-economic and health outcomes will be targeted for supported.

This group work with South Asian (Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi) women and their families living in Edinburgh. The funding will be used to focus on female carers of children and young people with special needs, as well as people with long-term health conditions - many of whom are hidden for a variety of reasons. NKS will provide one to one support to help in managing the caring role and to access services. They will also organise a programme of activities and establish a carers forum.
