As the lead body for sport and physical activity in the Cheshire sub-region, we perform a vital role in bringing together local people and national sports bodies. We use our unique local knowledge, influence and insight to ensure that national funding and resources reach the places where they will have the most impact on participation.

Our mission as a local organisation, independent of national organisations and charities, is to tackle physical inactivity by embedded movement into all aspects of everyday life. The Active Kids project will aim to incorporate Physical Activity into whole school plans of primary schools and nurseries in deprived areas of Cheshire and Warrington, with the goal being to ensure children are able to start life well with daily active habits at home and in school, which benefits their mental and physical health. The grant funding will allow schools in deprived areas of Cheshire and Warrington to access the Active Kids PLUS program, where they previously may not have been able to due to budget restraints, and help accelerate the implementation of the Active Plan into the school. This project has the potential to improve the mental and physical health of an estimated 2,690 children in the most deprived areas of Cheshire and Warrington, and the impact to affect even more people with parents and carers getting involved in becoming more physically active with their child.

The aim is not just to provide young people with training opportunities but to also to widen access to volunteering opportunities and improve transition to the community from school and vice versa. Active Cheshire have an established relationship with a local voluntary service and local school sports coordinators. This programme will help to strengthen this relationship, for the benefits of young people, by creating more opportunities for them.The young people, once trained, will then go on to support the delivery of a County-wide school sport festival in May 2018 which will see between 600-800 young people taking part, to encourage young people to become more physically active, which will in turn, support their long term physical and mental health wellbeing. The young volunteers will become part of the workforce team and following training, will be involved in activities such as, awareness raising, organising competitions, umpiring and refereeing, social media and opening and closing ceremony. The grant will pay for staffing costs, training, refreshments, certificates and awards and promotional materials.

Objectives

5.1 To provide or assist in the provision of opportunities for the benefit of the inhabitants of Warrington, Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester for physical and athletic recreation or other leisure-time and athletic activity, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants;5.2 To relieve the need, hardship and distress of such inhabitants in conditions of need, hardship and distress by providing financial or other assistance so enabling them to participate in the opportunities provided by the Charity;5.3 To disseminate or assist in the dissemination of information encouraging such inhabitants to participate in physical recreation (including sport) so as to promote their health and well-being, and in pursuance of the two first-mentioned main objects, but not otherwise, the Charity may in the interests of social welfare:5.3.1 Provide or assist in the provision of sporting opportunities for disabled people so as to relieve or alleviate their conditions;5.3.2 Provide or assist in the provision of sporting facilities for young persons aged under 25 years of age so as to secure or advance their physical education and training and enhance their education generally;5.3.3 Develop or assist in the development of the capacity and skills of the members of socially and economically disadvantaged communities within Warrington, Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester in such ways that they are better able to identify and help meet their needs in regard to physical and athletic recreation or other leisure-time physical and athletic activity, so improving their conditions of life;5.3.4 Provide and assist in the provision of opportunities for physical and athletic recreation or other leisure-time physical activity for older people, so as to promote their health and well-being.
