DSN?s ?Youth Vibe? is unique in Cheshire for providing a D/deaf youth led service focusing on reverse integration, where D/deaf and hearing young people 8-19 years old can enjoy and achieve together. In 2018 our Young leaders identified a lack of Deaf Awareness within their community and so they aim to continue towards "building deaf friendly communities? through the delivery of Deaf Awareness workshops. The grant funding will contribute towards activity costs to support the Young deaf people delivering deaf awareness workshops and a deaf friendly community event. Hearing people will have greater D/deaf Awareness and empathy towards people with a hearing impairment leading to improved accessibility and greater community cohesion.

The Deafness Support Network project will pay for staffing hours and materials to prepare and deliver an 8 week training program for young people who are profoundly deaf, hearing impaired or are hearing children within a D/deaf family, to become Deaf Awareness Ambassadors and train them in delivering deaf awareness sessions in their local community. Funding will also cover the cost of branded t-shirts/hoodies for the Ambassadors to give the group a real identity and purpose throughout the project and beyond. The young D/deaf people will decide on the target audiences they will present to in settings they choose, which will enable audiences to become more aware of the barriers which prevent young D/deaf people from accessing services, enhance understanding of deafness and help communities consider how they can become more accessible to young D/deaf people.
