Around 65% of this age group have had their 1st dose, ....more Covid19 cases in Dacorum during July 2021 are predominately in the 15-34 age group with over 50% of all cases being from this 20 year age group. Around 65% of this age group have had their 1st dose, and around 20% their 2nd dose in Dacorum. 11 wards in Dacorum score 10 on the MHCLG Indices of Deprivation 2019 against the Health Deprivation and Disability index, these include Highfields, Grovehill and Adeyfield where we already have projects running. Our intention is to focus our efforts in these 11 wards where vaccine hesitancy is being driven in this age group by fear of it restricting their activities. Our proposal is to build on our current work promoting the vaccine to hard-to-reach communities by delivering a project aimed at younger people in the more deprived areas of Dacorum Borough. Whilst we will not limit the circulation of our information, we will specifically target areas of Grovehill, Highfields, and Adeyfield in Hemel Hempstead, which have the greatest amount of deprivation. Working through our existing programs and our member organisations, we intent to collate and produce a social media, radio and leaflet campaign aimed at 17¾ to 35 year olds busting myths about the vaccine and it’s risks to help young people make an educated choice about taking the injection. Working with our subsidiary HITS, we would provide this information in 10 local languages to ensure that languages were not a barrier to understanding. In parallel with this, we will work with the inoculation centre at Hemel Hospital (and Maxted Road should this be extended) to arrange some sessions that are specifically targeted to young people, and provide entertainment through our radio station, Radio Dacorum for young people who attend these sessions. This is intended to create a party atmosphere and by talking to people in the queue, encourage other young people to attend. To make these sessions less off putting, we aim to recruit young volunteers to help those coming to be inoculated through the process, in a relatable peer to peer way. These young volunteers will be rostered to coincide with young peoples’ sessions. We already provide volunteers for the vaccination hubs so this is only a matter of planning and management to arrange. Finally, to correspond with these youth sessions, we will run a free minibus service from Highfields, through Grovehill and Adeyfield, onto the Hospital Hub and back, to collect and return young people who wish to be vaccinated. We will then run a second bus service from Berkhamstead central, via Bovingdon to the Hub and back again. Our aim is to remove barriers for younger people to get the vaccine and make the process more accessible and attractive to this age group.

The group needs support to reintegrate and gently grow confidence to reduce anxiety, tackle loneliness, and improve wellbeing in the longer term.
