Improved mental and physical health wellbeing, including confidence and self-esteem, (as measured through Empowerment Radar scores) This rapid response and crisis service will ensure womens urgent mental and physical health needs are identified and addressed quicker. This is vital for the cohort of disadvantaged women referred to Alana House. Many women are referred to Alana House once they have reached crisis point, they feel alone and scared, they are vulnerable and their confidence has hit rock bottom. Without the ability to quickly respond to urgent needs, these could escalate and result in A&E admissions, resorting to living on the streets, or children being at risk etc. This service will give Alana House the unique ability to provide an immediate response to urgent needs, as well as support services for less urgent/longer term needs that focus more on early intervention and prevention. For example, our domestic abuse recovery courses will help to build confidence and resilience, working with the mother alongside her child/ren in order to break the cycle of domestic abuse. Service-users noting having a stronger support network Alana House is a women-only place, where women feel safe a place where they learn to trust the staff, volunteers and fellow service-users. The range of support programmes on offer includes a Peer Mentor programme where women, when ready, have the option receive training to become Service-User Reps, who fulfil a leadership role to facilitate peer-to-peer support. Our experience shows that some women find it easier to share experiences, challenges and barriers amongst their peers. And the ability to identify and create a strong support network will increase the likelihood of outcomes being sustained over the longer term.
