Through their ‘Ages and Stages' project Shine Cymru will provide their age specific sustained support for 1336 individuals affected by Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus in Wales over four years. Its £350000 grant will fund salaries to be able to offer one-to-one support advice and information to improve the quality of their lives. Drwy eu prosiect ‘Ages and Stages' bydd Shine Cymru yn darparu eu cefnogaeth barhaus sy'n benodol o ran oedran i 1336 o unigolion yng Nghymru y mae Spina Bifida a Hydrocephalus yn effeithio arnynt dros bedair blynedd. Bydd ei grant £350000 yn ariannu cyflogau er mwyn gallu cynnig cefnogaeth cyngor a gwybodaeth un wrth un i wella ansawdd eu bywydau.

The funding will support SHINE to continue delivery of early intervention support for further children affected by spinal bifida and hydrocephalus and their families. Provision of practical support packages opportunities for deeper social connections and enhanced wellbeing support will enable those with physical and learning difficulties to achieve key developmental milestones to obtain the best start in life and integrate into the community. Evolving and extending the project to include those up to the age of 18 will transform their trajectory through continued support to navigate difficult transitions into adulthood.

The five-year Bright Stars project is offering emotional and practical support to the families of children under the age of 10 with spina bifida and hydrocephalus across Northern Ireland. When a family brings their baby home from hospital a support worker helps them develop a personalised plan for the child. There is a network of peer support groups for families and they support siblings to develop stronger relationships and better understand the difficulties faced by their disabled brother or sister.

The group works across the UK providing support to improve the lives of those who suffer, and their families, from Spina bifida and Hydrocephalus. This project will engage beneficiaries from the Derry/Londonderry area. The project is to provide opportunities for disabled members to engage in musical activities, through engaging in workshops, rehearsals and performances. The workshops will be led by the Ulster Orchestra and will introduce a range of musical experiences including learning to play instruments and performing in a professional ensemble. The project will culminate with a final performance in October 2013 accompanied by the Ulster Orchestra. The project will provide an opportunity for the beneficiaries to engage in City of Culture arts and musical events.
