Early nutrition, health services and care are significant challenges in poorer countries but they can ensure a child’s brain and body develop properly. The effects of undernutrition are often irreversible, resulting in lower intelligence quotients and a higher likelihood of not finishing school. Undernourished children are a third less likely to escape poverty once they become adults. Further, undernourished girls often become undernourished mothers, who give birth to undernourished children.This funding to the Power of Nutrition will support large-scale, high-impact nutrition programmes that will ultimately improve both health and livelihoods.
