Lindengate offers therapeutic horticultural and gardening activities to support those with physical and mental health needs in their continuing recovery and to help them to improve their quality of life.

Core cost support to enable Lindengate to meet the increased need for its support for those with mental health issues and increase acccess to the benefit of green space for communities in Bucks.

Improving Health and Wellbeing: The main outcomes we are trying to achieve are to help vulnerable women with mental health needs to improve their mental health and wellbeing. This may lead to secondary outcomes like increased confidence, or a sense of wellbeing. Each Gardener (service user) is an individual and upon arrival, we discretely assess each person in order to evaluate their needs and set bespoke goals for their outcomes. UK-based research (Bibliography available) shows a strong correlation between horticultural activities and successful rehabilitation for a wide range of physical and mental health issues. While we understand that each Gardener is an individual and will respond to our STH sessions in her own individual way, based on known research and our own experiences with service users, we do expect for there to be an overall group trend towards improvement. Building Skills and Confidence: Our expected outcomes are that women taking part in the project will gain new skills or enhance their existing skills. At Lindengate, we provide a variety of activities, to suit different needs and capabilities; from gardening, food-growing, arts, crafts, construction, to cooking and baking. We expect that the women participating in our STH program will build their skills and are likely to gain confidence and a sense of purpose and achievement. Our expectation is based on the experience and feedback of other Gardeners who attend Lindengate, including women attending the Wednesday group. Building social networks will be an indirect benefit, since our STH sessions are also aimed at social engagement and reducing social isolation, it is a by-product outcome that the Gardeners may tend to socialise and build friendships within the group.

This project offers Social and Therapeutic Horticulture to support people with a wide range of mental health needs including anxiety, depression, autism spectrum disorder, dementia and schizophrenia. Support is provided through one to one and group sessions, providing people the chance to learn new skills and work alongside others. The organisation will use funding to meet increased demand, develop its activities and build new funding streams.
