Building stronger communities. Kings Cliffe Active is a wholly volunteer run charity, with all the Trustees and our other volunteers from Kings Cliffe and surrounding villages. Whilst we have benefitted from the support of professional officers from local Councils and other organisations over time we are a fantastic example of a community helping itself to develop its community. Through the applications for funds, the organsiation and operation and management of the charity, or the establishment of new activities and the running of these - all have been based on a need identified within the community. We are part of the community and work closely with other groups - way beyond just providing space for their activities. For example we led a project a few years ago "Celebrating Kings Cliffe Community" which consisted of all the groups in the village coming together to promote over the one summer all the different activities that were available to local residents under a single banner, cross promoting activities to make more people more aware, attending each others events as appropriate in support. We have developed new facilities and new activities on the site based on interest from within the community which is tested first by some consultation - for example a Netball Club was formed and we helped them play on the car park with temporary markings and moveable goals until such time as we had secured the funds to build the two Netball Courts (with Tennis Courts). The fact that they had formed was a significant benefit for our funding application; it also meant that it diversified the makeup of participants on the site which was largely male due to the Football. Likewise the establishment of a Gym has come after many years of planning, consultation, constantly checking back with local residents and working towards the best outcome when we were regularly pushed towards an Outdoor Gym. And likewise work with our local residents is driving the exploration of new projects - eg a Community Garden. If we could secure a teacher we know of a lot of interest in Dance. Whilst Sport is at the core of everything we do it is a wider definition that we tend to use - "and physical activity", "active", "recreation", and increasingly "health and wellbeing". We take immense pride in the fact that what was once a farmers field is a great facility for the community and one which continues to be developed for our developing community, providing so many different opportunities for everyone to come together - especially at big events like the annual CliffeFest, but also the more recent and much smaller Gardeners Club and Church Plant Fair.
