All survivors of any form of sexual violence, sexual assault or sexual abuse suffer physical; mental and psychological trauma as a result of the incident - whether this is following a recent incident of a sexual nature or is 'non recent' (historic); whether this is a one off incident or multiple; whether this is a stranger or a known, trusted person; whether this is exploitation, coercion or violent attack. The expected outcomes are to improve health and wellbeing of women and girls engaging in SOS Rape Crisis specialist services, enabling them to apply positive coping strategies; to enable them to address their emotional and behavioural attitudes and responses as well as their physical attitudes and approaches. The objective is also to link with key partners and agencies to enable holistic networks of support according to the survivors needs - ensuring the woman/girl is at the centre of all support provided. The specialist work will look at and support a range of other areas that affect survivors of sexual violence including ability to have more control of their lives; more able to assert their rights; able to develop and maintain positive relationships as well as enabling better health & wellbeing.
