The grant will facilitate the creation and ongoing support of the WAYV (Warrington Youth Volunteering) programme, providing be a variety of different volunteering opportunities, events and training sessions specifically for young people, which does not currently exist. 'Satellite’ groups will be formed that are affiliated with partner organisations, with partners already approaching WVA to register their interest in this model, which will create over 50 new volunteering opportunities for young people interested in influencing the services that they access through campaigning and promotion. Once the groups are established, they will be encouraged to engage with and develop social action projects to further the causes they care about. In addition, there will also be a large group of ‘Youth Correspondents’ whose role it will be to report on events happening in the town. This takes inspiration from celebrity ‘social media influencers’, the idea being that the young volunteers will promote fun social action events and opportunities to their friends via their own profiles. Once the YCs are trained, they will be matched with local organisations running events and activities. The grant will pay for staff salaries, volunteer expenses, operational activity, training and materials.
