This 14-month project supports Edberts House to pilot and test the new Integrated Neighbourhood Teams (INT) model being proposed by NHS England (NHSE) in East Gateshead. The model puts local people and community connecting places at the centre of neighbourhood systems and encourages all local services to work collaboratively at place. The Edberts House Chief Officer is the named sponsor of the INT in Gateshead and is working alongside the Director of Place, Director of Adult Social Care, and Head of Operations at the Hospital Trust to test this approach to tackling health inequalities in the area. This project is gathering initial community feedback and preparing for roll out in 2025, with the pilot in East Gateshead potentially serving as a good practice example for other areas.

This 21-month project works to amplify the voice of private sector tenants living in an inner-city area of Gateshead, Tyneside. Much of the local private housing stock in the area is in a poor state of repair, with the key issues being damp, mould and absent landlords. As a result, tenants struggle with asthma, overcrowding, stress and anxiety. This project is working to establish a permanent channel for landlords, local government, regulators, and elected representatives to hear from marginalised tenants about the housing issues they are facing, in order to achieve change and ultimately improve their health. The project also enables tenants to develop their social connections through social activity, and exchange experiences and ideas with others in their neighbourhood and beyond.

Will scale up the work or four organisations working in partnership (Edberts House, Gateshead Older Peoples Assembly, CBC Health (federation representing all GP practices in Gateshead) and Gateshead Council), operating a social prescribing model within East Gateshead to include rural Gateshead. It is anticipated that this will support an additional 1,000 individuals. Community Link Workers will be embedded within GP practices to provide support for people who are isolated and lonely. It represents a strong model of partnership working to help people who are often furthest from support and connections. The model being scaled up has the potential for cost and time savings for statutory organisations as well as giving people the ability to live with healthy interdependence.
