20 women with learning and physical disabilities will successfully transition into the workforce, benefiting from increased: 1. IT skills: Users will be able to use the internet and other IT features, reducing their isolation and dependence and overcoming this barrier to entering the workforce. 2. Social skills and independence: At this transitional stage in their lives, Get2Work grants users the independence they crave by equipping them with the life-skills (social skills, time management, using public transport) they need to enjoy long-term employment. 3. Happiness, confidence and fulfilment: Get2Work tackles users isolation and boredom, giving them something to look forward to, a consistent schedule, daily opportunities to meet people, and a sense of accomplishment. Their confidence soars as they are entrusted with the responsibility of holding down a job and are able to earn a wage. 4. Integration: We are fortunate to be supported by 80 local volunteers. As they develop friendships with our users, their preconceptions about disability and the associated stigma dissolve, building empathy and acceptance in its place. Additionally, as the community becomes acquainted with our women in local businesses, users visibility increases and they ultimately become valued, integral members of society. Lily is so proud of her job at a local clothing store. She loves meeting customers, using the computer at checkout, getting home on the bus, and saving her wages. Her overall happiness and self-image have improved so much its unbelievable. (Mrs M., mother of Lily, 28, with Down syndrome.)
