The funding will enable Beacon South Yorkshire to recruit and train 25 new volunteers, drawn from the local community that are using the services. BSY focuses on supporting carers of people who are substance misusers. The expanded services and increased volunteer capacity will enable them to support 2529 carers mainly in Barnsley, but also some in Rotherham, these are all vulnerable local people who right now are not able to access much needed support.

This project supports carers of substance users through a range of services including a 24/7 helpline, counselling, confidence building workshops, coping strategies, monthly coffee mornings, outings and other social events. They also offer complementary treatments such as massage, acupuncture and manicures and signposting to other agencies. Training opportunities are available for service users or ex-service users who want to increase their skills and move into volunteering within the organisation.
